Once you have confirmation that Freeview is available in your area, we advise you to check your aerial as Digital Freeview does require good signal reception. Firstly, look at your aerial, if it is half the size of your neighbours or pointing in a different direction to everybody else then you will almost certainly need a visit from your local aerial man! Then, if still in doubt, talk with your local aerial installer, they should be able to advise you on aerial requirements in your area – however as long as you are aware of the possible cost of an aerial upgrade there is no harm in waiting to see if you do actually need a new one.


Freeview - Humax Duovisio PVR-9300T


Because the recorder is digital it will automatically record programs in free space on the hard disc. Information on previously recorded programs is presented in an ordered list with either the information taken from the on screen program guide or your own labelling input.


The PVR hard disk recorder is always ready to record and has easy retrieval of recorded programs. The unit automatically buffers your viewing for up to one hour from the time you start watching a channel. This automatic buffering allows the manipulation of live TV with pause, rewind etc. a particularly good feature for subtitle users who wish to instantly recap an important programme segment.


The quality of the recordings is equal to broadcast quality – you’ll never want to go back to VHS! However recordings can be output to a VHS/DVD recorder if an external copy is required.

The dtg site has a rather nice connection wizard to explain how to connect up your TV, DVD, digital decoder etc,.


Connevans note, it is often said that digital TV has less subtitles than conventional TV – whilst this is statistically true, in our experience from many hours of watching – if the subtitles are shown on conventional TV, they will also be shown on Freeview – it is the new additional channels that have minimal subtitling at present.

It is not often that we have a new product at Connevans which generates universal enthusiasm – but that has happened with the Humax PVR9300T .


In reality, you rarely wish to keep TV programmes in perpetuity, the usual objective is to time shift and the PVR9300T is able to hold 200 hours of recordings. Just think, no looking for empty tapes, no recording over somebody else’s recording just because it had not been labelled – pure magic.


The PVR9300T can be set to always display and record subtitles when they are available but there is more!


We still have not touched on the most whizzo feature for deaf people – live pause and live rewind. Why? Because using subtitles to follow programme content is not easy – do you watch the picture or just read the words? With live rewind, you can ‘instantly’ rewatch any part of a programme that you did not fully see or understand; you then simply continue watching the programme a few minutes behind the rest of the world – in practice if you fast forwards through any adverts you will probably soon catch up.
