MED-EL Microphone Test Device for use with MEDEL TEMPO+,
OPUS 1 & OPUS 2 speech processors.
A microphone test device (MTD) is available to assist in
determining whether the microphone is providing an adequate signal.
It allows you to carry out a listening check of the processor.
To use the MTD: remove the connecting piece from the processor
and remove the battery pack. Plug the MTD cable into the processor
as if it were a remote battery pack. Plug the accompanying
earphones into the earphone jack of the MTD. Using the earphones,
speak into the OPUS 2 microphone and listen to the quality of your
voice. The MTD has a volume control so that the sound level can be
adjusted for the listener. If the sound is scratchy or of poor
quality, the microphone may need to be cleaned or repaired. Contact
MED-EL or the implant center for repair or replacement options.
NOTE: If no signal is heard, push the Self-Test button on the MTD.
If the MTD is working properly, a beeping sound will be present.
The MTD features an LED that emits a green light if the MTD battery
is good and a red light if the battery is low.
The MTD uses 1 rechargeable or alkaline AA battery
(supplied).
Note: it is also possible to use a MTD with a RONDO but it
requires a Mini Battery Pack and connecting cables, purchased
separately. For use with a SONNET, you will also require a Fine
Tuner and adaptor - it is often easier to purchase these items
together as a kit , please see Associated items.

It is important to use the MTD only in an environment that is
quiet. A noisy
environment may trigger the audio processor’s system of handling
loud noises. To someone who is not an implant user, this may change
the sound quality that is heard through the MTD. If the signal is
perceived to be of poor quality, check to be sure the headphones
are working properly to rule them out as the cause of the problem.
The headphones can be checked by plugging them into any typical
device (i.e., a portable CD player or some other device that uses
stereo headphones).
